Cowboy Basketball

A late season slump (losses in 3 of last 5 games) hasn't affected the positive outlook of Coach Ted Dunlap's Varsity Boys. "I'm not concerned. We've had some personnel issues, but once we get back to full strength, we'll be fine," he said. Willcox (10-8) lost an upset bid against Safford 65-61 last Tuesday. Rudy Verdugo's 20 points and 12 each from Jake Shaver and Carson Skaarer kept them close against a team that beat them by 30 earlier in the season. Shane Hicks scored 23 points to help the Cowboys get back on track with a 56-55 win at Bisbee on Friday. They play at Thatcher on Friday and have a home game with rival Benson on Monday. The Benson game has been moved up from its original date of Friday, Feb. 12.
