| Look at that shine! Arizona Classic Thunderbird Club held its annual Economy Run this past weekend in Willcox. The members stayed at the Best Western Friday and Saturday, drove to the Chiricahua National Monument and visited Railroad Avenue for museums and shopping Saturday and had dinner at Big Tex's Friday; Coronado Vineyard Saturday. RR crossings closed Wed.-Thurs
Union Pacific Railroad will repair the tracks on Stewart Street and Patte Road in Willcox. The crossing on Stewart Street will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17 through 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, said Jamie O'Shea, Office Manager at RoadSafe Traffic System.
On Thursday, Nov. 19, the crossing on Patte Road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., she said.
RoadSafe Traffic System will provide traffic control during the full road closure while Union Pacific does the repairs.
Methodist Church bazaar, luncheon
"The Spirit of the Season", a holiday bazaar featuring crafts, gift items, delicious baked goods, homemade jams, jellies, and pickles, and collectible attic treasures will be held at the Willcox United Methodist Church, 124 S. Curtis, on Wednesday, Nov.18, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A lunch of chicken, dumplings and cole slaw or chili and cornbread plus Texas sheet cake for dessert will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $5. Take out will be available.
Several raffle items are being offered at this year's event. They include a handsewn quilt made from antique and reproduction fabric, a beautiful granny square afghan, a ceramic nativity set complete with stable, and a gorgeous malachite, 9-stone necklace with matching earrings. Tickets are $2 each or 6 for $10.
The UMW holiday bazaar has been in existence for nearly 50 years and over time has become a tradition for both the church and the citizens of Willcox. Proceeds benefit local as well as national and international projects and are used to improve services and lives wherever they are used.
San Pedro River Arts call to artists
The San Pedro River Arts Council is issuing a call to artists for unframed works on paper, or photographs for a show in the City Hall Gallery in Benson. Show title is "The Doors of Cochise County."
Deadline for entries is Nov. 27. The work is scheduled to be hung on Dec. 2, and will remain up for two months. There is no entry fee. For further information, call Sylvia at 520-586-4782 or email her at bensonartsbelle@mac.com. There is also information on the website www.SPRarts.org.

LDS Ward 1 holds supply-raiser
The Willcox 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organizing a community drive to help fill some needs in our local Willcox Elementary and Middle Schools.
Items that are being collected include:
Liquid Tylenol
Robitussin DM
Cough Drops
Hand Sanitizer
Kleenex Tissue (any brand)
Sweatpants for children in Kindergarten thru 4th grade
If you can help with donations of any of the above items, you may drop them off at the Willcox Elementary School (Susan Poire is the school nurse and contact person there) or at the Willcox Family Dental office on Rex Allen Drive (with Nan Cambern being the contact person there). Donations will be accepted through Dec. 18.
We know there are many wonderful and giving people in our community and feel that together with your help and involvement, we can help serve this need for the children in our area during this tough cold and flu season.

Donate your extra for food collection
Food collection: As the economic worries of our country deepen, more people in our community have lost jobs and homes. Trinity Lutheran is collecting non-perishable foods to help the hungry in our community. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match this community collection with additional funds.
Food is being collected in several locations in the community. The food will be distributed through the Willcox Food Pantry. You may also donate checks made out to the Willcox Food Pantry. No donated funds are used in administrative costs. The Pantry uses all funds for food for the needy. Please look for the collection boxes in several locations in town and please donate your extra.
Apple Festival art and photo show
The Art League of Willcox is sponsoring an art and photography show as part of this year's Willcox Apple Festival, Dec. 4 and 5. The Art League will provide cash prizes including $25 for best of show entry, $15 for best of each of four categories, $10 for two judge's choice awards and $10 for two special student awards.
The show is open to artists and photographers for a fee of $5 per entry, and $3 for students (K-12). There is a limit of three entries per person.
Entries must be delivered to the Willcox Community Center on Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and entry fees paid at that time.
Categories include two-dimensional art (drawings and paintings), three dimensional art (sculpture or woodworking), and photography (color and black and white). There are two special theme categories: apples and Christmas.

Commodities distribution Nov. 25
USDA Commodities will be delivered Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 9 until 11 a.m. at the Willcox United Methodist Church, corner of Maley and Curtis.

Salvation Army bell ringers wanted
The Willcox Salvation Army is asking for bell ringer volunteers to assist with holiday kettle collections.
Our local Willcox chapter of the Salvation Army is self-funded through donations provided from individuals, and business within our community. During the holiday season and winter months, the Salvation Army is called upon the most to assist those in need. The donations received through our holiday kettles are critical in providing emergency assistance to individuals and families in need.

FSA county committee elections
Carol Case, Executive Director of USDA's Farm Service Agency in Cochise County, urges Cochise County farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers to vote in FSA county committee elections by Dec. 7, 2009, the deadline for casting ballots.
"FSA county committees provide producers with the opportunity to help implement federal farm programs in their communities," said Case. "It is vital that all farmers and ranchers, especially women and minorities, participate in the elections process to ensure the opinions expressed in committee meetings reflect an area's agricultural sector."
Producers must return ballots to their local FSA offices by the close of business Dec. 7. Newly elected committee members and alternates take office Jan. 1, 2010.
FSA county committee members make decisions on conservation programs; commodity price support loans and payments; disaster assistance payments; and othergag issues.
Committees consist of three to five elected members who serve three-year terms. Committees may also have one or more female or minority advisors to further represent the local interests of women and minority farmers and ranchers. For more information, visit http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA
Old Pearce Heritage Days
Old Pearce Heritage Days, sponsored by the Old Pearce Preservation Association, will celebrate the history of the town on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 27 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Old Pearce Mercantile will have new displays of historic photos, articles and paraphernalia. Association members will be on hand to serve pastries and coffee. The Trashy Women of Cochise County dance group will be performing Nov. 27 and event organizers ask all those musicians who have fiddles, guitars, banjos, accordions, harmonicas and the like to call (520) 826-3588 to set up a performance time.
Artists, authors and craftsmen will be set up in the courtyard of the mercantile with a variety of items for sale.
