Free concert at The Spring Friday
The SPRING Student Center is pleased to invite you to a free concert featuring "When Death Becomes You" on Friday, July 10 at 7 p.m.
Members of the band are: Alex Camacho (Vocals), Michael Hall (Lead Guitar), James Seay (Rythm/Lead Guitarist/Clean Vocals), Noah Van Haren (Bass), and finally, Mike (Drums). When Death Becomes You has played with such well known bands as, Blessthefall, Attack Attack!, Confide, Greeley Estates, Pensive, Hemlock, Arms Like Yours, and I Bet It Was A Massacre.
There will be no age limit for the concert. However those under 12 must be accompanied by their parents. There will also be door prizes. The SPRING Student Center is located at 124 N. Haskell.
Wanted: School supplies
The Willcox Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture is again sponsoring the Angel Bus. The bus will be parked at Food City or Safeway through Wednesday, Aug. 5. Supply lists will be available at the bus. Items can be dropped off at the administration office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or you can bring your donations to the Chamber office, 1500 N. Circle I Road Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Because of your generosity last year, the teachers at the Willcox Unified School District were able to have the supplies they needed to help students learn and grow. Children did not have to share glue, or paper, or scissors.
Please stop by the bus and pick up a supply list. It is our responsibility to make sure ALL kids have the same opportunities to learn. Thank you for your generous support last year, we hope you will choose to support this project again this year.
Heart and health screenings July 23
Cathedral Health Services will be at Extended Hands Ministries, 151 W. Wasson St. in Willcox on Thursday, July 23 providing a health screening designed to detect cardiovascular and other diseases.
The program provides the following screenings:
Heart Screening
Atrial Fibrillation
Stroke screening
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Thyroid Screening
Peripheral Arterial Disease
Blood Oxygen Saturation, Blood Pressure and Pulse testing is provided to all who participate.
Individual screening tests are offered for as little as $45; the heart screening is $100, while the complete screening package is offered for $175. Appointments are required.

Airport Town Hall meeting Thursday
A Willcox Airport Ad-Hoc Committee Town Hall Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 9, at 7 p.m. at the Willcox Elks Lodge, 300 W. Stewart St. in Willcox.
The Airport Ad-Hoc committee would like public feedback before making a recommendation to City Council. The committee was charged with the task of making a determination based on research as to the city's moving ahead and acquiring the airport or leaving it with Cochise County.
The committee will present the data they have received and then answer questions, address concerns, and listen to the comments from the public. This is your invitation to address the committee and speak freely on your feelings concerning the airport.
Your opinion matters and we hope you will attend and share it with the committee members and the community.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Apply for school board vacancy
The Cochise County Superintendent of Schools is accepting letters of interest for a vacant position on the Governing Board of Willcox Unified School District #13.
The County Superintendent will appoint this member to complete the vacated position's term, which will expire on Dec. 31, 2012.

Quarterback Club meets tonight
The Willcox Quarterback Club will meet tonight, Wednesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. at Big Tex, 130 E Maley St.
The purpose of the Quarterback club is to support and promote the WHS Cowboy football team. Anyone interested in participating is welcome to attend. Contact Rick Skaarer at 520-820-5210 for information.
Free sport physicals July 18 and 31
Walker Family Medicine will do free school sports physicals on Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. to noon. They will also show the sports risk film required for parents of sports participants. Free sports physicals (and the film) will also be held at Willcox High School gym Friday, July 31, at 1 p.m.
Homeland Security careers academy
The Cochise College Center for Lifelong Learning has teamed up with the Department of Homeland Security to offer a free 16-hour course that will provide basic information on the requirements to apply for, be accepted, and successfully complete the training for careers in border security, including U.S. Customs and the U.S. Border Patrol.
The five-day course will guide participants to be able to describe the skills, training and test required, including the application process and writing an incident report. A certificate of completion will be awarded for achievement.
Classes will be held in Room 219 of the Douglas Campus from July 7 through July 16. The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To register in Douglas, call (520) 364-8906; callers from other areas can register by dialing (520) 458-9309. Anyone needing an accommodation should contact the Cochise College Disability Services Office, (520) 515-5337 or (520) 417-4023, at least 72 hours in advance.
