Book buyers, some from as far away as Benson and St. David, had a field day at the Friends of the Sunsites Community Library Spring Book Sale on April 4.
It also was a great day for the Friends as buyers walked away with more than $500 worth of books as they took advantage of any array of enticing, special offers. Add a $150 donation by an anonymous donor and it was a record Spring Book Sale day for the Friends.
"It was a great turnout, and it was nice to see so many people taking advantage of the opportunity to buy books at great prices," said Sula Rowe, book store manager.
The book store also has undergone a reorganization. The former non-fiction room is now the outlet for newer and better quality books in good condition, and the former fiction room now is the sale annex where the book sale will continue on a permanent basis.
The Friends organization owns and maintains the library building and the grounds. Proceeds from the book sale, gifts, memberships, Elegant Dessert Night and other fund raisers help pay for the library's utilities, repairs and general upkeep of the grounds and buildings.
The Sunsites Library is part of the Cochise County Library District, which provides books, the salary of the branch manager, computers and services such as reference assistance, interlibrary loans, courier service and continuing education.
