Secure pets during fireworks, thunder

The Willcox DPS Humane Division remindes pet owners to please secure your yards to keep your animals safe during fireworks and monsoon season.

If you know your dog is afraid of the loud noises, kennel them in a secure place in the house. Sometimes a blanket or dark place for them makes them feel more secure. You may even leave some music on for them to distract them from the loud fireworks or thunder.

Most of all, be sure they have collars and tags so that if they do escape, we can locate you and return them to you.

Heart and health screenings July 23

Heart Disease is the No. 1 killer among men and women in the United States. Surprisingly a large number of those suffering from heart disease do not have any obvious outward signs; for many, their very first symptom is a heart attack. Cathedral Health Services will be at Extended Hands Ministries, 151 W. Wasson St. in Willcox on Thursday, July 23 providing a health screening designed to detect cardiovascular and other diseases.

The mission of CHS, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is to save lives through education, detection and prevention of life threatening diseases. The goal of the health screening is to target the early detection of specific life-endangering conditions such as heart disease, stroke and aneurysm that can go undetected for long periods of time. Untreated, these conditions can cause needless personal pain, diminished quality of life and financial hardship.

The program provides the following screenings:

Heart Screening

Atrial Fibrillation

Stroke screening

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Thyroid Screening

Peripheral Arterial Disease

Blood Oxygen Saturation, Blood Pressure and Pulse testing is provided to all who participate.

Individual screening tests are offered for as little as $45; the heart screening is $100, while the complete screening package is offered for $175. Appointments are required.

CHS also provides a consultation to review the results and to help identify personal health risk factors. This information can aid in the development of a personal wellness plan to assist in taking proactive steps to maintain one's health.
