A flock of ten White-rumped Sandpipers (Calidris fuscicollis) was discovered by Gavin Bieber and Jake Mohlmann June 3 at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Willcox. According to the Arizona Field Ornithologists website, this record is remarkable because there are only eight previous records of this species in Arizona and all these records are of single birds. Five of those records come from Willcox and nearly all from mid-May to late June. This flock represents more White-rumped Sandpipers than have ever been recorded in the state. Local bird expert Homer Hansen called it an "incredible bird sighting."
