U.S. Border Patrol Agents identified and arrested a known gang member in a Saturday incident.

Agents from the Willcox Border Patrol Station arrested an illegal immigrant from Mexico who was enrolled in the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) at the Douglas Station.

Through records checks, it was revealed that he is an active member of the violent Chicago street gang Spanish Gangster Disciples, Drake and Lawrence Faction.

It was learned the subject has had several arrests for burglary and criminal damage to property/fire.

The subject is being processed for illegal re-entry of a prior removal, said a statement issued Monday.

Technology, such as the IAFIS system and others, assists agents with identifying criminals from throughout the United States.

During October and November of fiscal year 2009, there have been more than 540 individuals arrested in the Tucson Sector for a variety of major crimes, including kidnapping, homicide, sexual assault, robbery, and assault.
