Fort Grant Road delays expected
The Cochise County Highway/ Floodplain Department will be conducting a crack-sealing project on Fort Grant Road starting at milepost 0 to milepost 7. Traffic will be allowed to travel on Fort Grant Road during this time, however:
€ Speed limits will be reduced to 25 mph in construction zones.
€ Expect up to 15 minutes delays.
€ Please use alternate routes where possible.
Every effort will be made to maintain a safe work zone for both the public and staff.
Please drive carefully and adhere to all traffic devices and cautionary speed limits.
The project began Tuesday, Jan. 15, and is expected to end on Thursday, Jan. 31. Work will occur during ht hours of 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Legendary 'Stamps Quartet' in Willcox
The Legendary "Stamps Quartet" is coming to Willcox, at the First Southern Baptist Church (corner of Cochise and Wasson) on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m.
Inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1997, they also received Grammy and Dove Awards for "The Best Gospel Group" and "Best Gospel Album of the Year". They performed regularly with Elvis Presley on many recordings and toured in concert as back-up artists for Tammy Wynette, Jerry Lee Lewis, Willie Nelson and many other well-known country music artists.
The group has performed at such prestigious venues as the world reknown Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, Grand Ole Opry and the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. We feel very fortunate that they have graciously accepted our invitation to "WOW" us for an evening of "Southern Style Gospel Singing".

Prevent ID theft, fraud: Free workshop Jan. 22
Northern Cochise Health System and the Willcox Chamber of Commerce have partnered to bring a free workshop to the residents of the Willcox area on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Kiva Room, Best Western Plaza Inn. The presentation will run about an hour and a half; light refreshments will be provided.
We must be constantly aware of the possibility of identity theft and fraud; especially if you are a senior citizen. Older people seem to be prime targets for both crimes.
You are invited to hear a representative from the Arizona Attorney General's office speak about ways to protect yourself and those you care about from having your identity stolen or from being "scammed." The presenter will also discuss potential ways to remedy problems if you feel you have been scammed.
Don't miss this free workshop. This is an opportunity to hear and talk to a representative of Terry Goddard's office on very important subjects.
Shower Jan. 27 for victims of house fire
Ted and Susan Zickert lost all possessions in a house fire on Dec. 26. Everyone is invited to a shower/reception at the Willcox United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 224 S. Curtis, on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. to help replace needed items.
Refreshments will be served. Please bring a favorite recipe to share.

Chiricahua Gun Club first "Tin Can Shoot"
On Saturday, Jan. 19, Chiricahua Gun Club will host its first Tin Can Shoot, a competition by elimination, also a timed event.
Family fun, sharp shootin' and prizes. This is will be an all-day affair.

Democrats to meet Saturday in Willcox
The Northern Cochise County Democrats will meet in Willcox at the TA Truck Stop on Saturday, Jan. 19, instead of the following week due to a conflict of county scheduling.
The speaker will be the new County Chair, Bob Bland, who will give a presentation on the activist training programs that he has experienced. Bob will use an adaptation of a power-point presentation from the national party. It should be an interesting and very timely subject. We all need to become more active in the political process.
Refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you there.

Willcox Winds to help some with hardships
Willcox Winds Productions is a non-profit community service organization dedicated to presenting musical events for the purpose of raising money for people who have fallen upon hardship due to an illness or a catastrophe in their lives.

In addition to the on-going weekly exercise program, WASA/Steps will be offering a 12-week Fat Loss and Nutrition Program starting Monday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m., in the Willcox Middle School gym.
Weekly and monthly prizes for most improved: grand prize for first three places - individual or team.
Come out and lose with us! There is a one-time fee of $25, which covers all 12 weeks.
Envisioning 2020 meetings in January
On Wednesday evening, Jan. 16, the Cochise County Planning Department invites you to participate in the continuing Envision2020 project.
Over the next three months you and your neighbors will have opportunity to provide your county government with your ideas on change, growth and development. Regional meetings focusing on issues related to your community will be offered at various locations throughout the county.
These workshops, part of the Envisioning 2020 project, began in late 2007 and will continue into the spring of 2008. Two meetings will be held in January beginning with the Jan. 16 meeting at the Pomerene School from 6-9 p.m.
The second January meeting will be a morning session on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Sunsites Community Center from 9 a.m.-noon. All meetings are free and open to the public. For more information, log on to cochisecounty.com/envision2020 or call 520-432-9240.
These are no ordinary planning workshops. Your participation and opinion as a resident is needed for these sessions to work. There will be facilitated discussions and interactive exercises to allow all participants to assist in creating a vision for land use change in Cochise County.
LCO Alpha sorority's scholarship offered
The Arizona Alpha Chapter of Lambda Chi Omega Sorority is offering a scholarship to a graduating high school senior or alumnus from the Willcox area. The amount of the scholarship is $500 biannually for full-time students, renewable each year when a minimum of 12 credits per semester are taken consecutively at a university, community college, trade, or technical school. Proceeds from the sorority's annual rummage sale fund the scholarship program.
In order to qualify for consideration for this scholarship, an applicant must be a local graduating senior or alumnus, have or had a 2.0 grade point average or better, and must be planning to attend college, trade, or technical school in the fall following graduation. A completed application, grade transcript, two letters of recommendation, a personal letter detailing applicant's school and extracurricular activities as well as future goals, and supporting documents indicating that the individual will be enrolled as a full-time student in the fall and spring semesters of the upcoming school year, must be submitted to the Scholarship Chairman no later than June 14, 2008.
Applications may be picked up at either the WHS Counselor's Office or room # 301 in the Math Department. During school vacations, applications may be obtained by contacting a sorority member. All completed scholarship forms must be returned to the Alpha Chapter of Lambda Chi Omega Sorority, P.O. Box 207, Willcox, AZ 85644.
